 |
| Our group
aims to develop health indices by executing
a national-scale genomic epidemiology
study, the Korean Health and Genome
Epidemiology Study (KoHGES). Our group
collects and analyzes information of
the dietary habits, lifestyles, and
other epidemiological data, as well
as of genetics regulations, from large
cohorts of the Korean people. |
|
|
| This is to clarify the causal
relationship between the genetic and environmental
elements, mainly in the areas of five most
prevalent lifestyle-related-diseases; diabetes,
hypertension, osteoporosis, obesity, and metabolic
syndrome. We also aim to establish a model
system such that the health indices based
on the results of long-term cohort studies
and large scale bio-marker surveys should
allow, when used either alone or in combinations,
accurate disease prediction, disease progress
monitoring, and primary diagnosis at the earliest
possible stages, even in the preclinical state,
in a foreseeable future. |
|
| By doing so, we proudly take
a leadership in transforming the national
health care system from a conventional one
centered on clinical diagnosis and treatment
to an advanced system centered on comprehensive
health enhancement and active disease prevention,
of which all the Korean people would take
the full advantage. In the long run, such
a national health system should help reduce
not only the disease burden but total medical
expenses of the country. |
