The Division of Enteric and Hepatitis Viruses conducts research on the molecular biology and the development of rapid diagnostic systems and of vaccine candidates for enteric viruses, human diarrhea viruses, and hepatitis viruses. We are strengthening the acute flaccid paralysis surveillance, national enterovirus surveillance and viral diarrhea surveillance
network which include hospitals and 16 local Institutes of Health and Environment. To prepare an bioterrorism attack using smallpox viruses, we have the established molecular diagnostic system for variola virus and are currently developing the second generation smallpox vaccine.
