* KCDC/ 13 National Quarantine Stations

The first National Quarantine Stations were established at ports of Busan, Incheon and Mok-po in 1926 under the US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare during the period of the United States Army Military Govemment in Korea. As of today, there are 13 Quarantine Stations and 11 Substations throughout the country.
In order to prevent the introduction, transmission, land spread of infectious diseases from foreign countries into Korea and vice versa, NQSs are responsible for (1) conduction inspections of both inbound and outbound conveyances (ship, aircraft, road vehicle), crews, passengers and cargos, (2) providing globally approved immunizations (3) keeping control of public health and hygiene within the inspection zone and (4) searching vectors of imported diseases.
The Quarantine Stations have recently been equipped with thermal image infrared cameras to promptly respond to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and bio-terrorism. National Quarantine Stations Provide updated information on disease outbreak situation in other countries through a web-site and also conduct public awareness campaigns to prevent infectious diseases for outbound traverlers.
